A sports equipment manufacturer had designed a unique new training tool for high-performance racing bikes. Mounted in the rear hub, this new device would measure how much motive force the athlete was exerting at any given moment. Ultimately, this data could help improve a racer’s performance.

However, the designers had hit a snag. They couldn’t get the all-important torque sensing measurement just right. So they consulted DJ Instruments.

Our experts collaborated with the designers, acting as a virtual extension of the wheelmaker’s engineering group. We applied our specialized knowledge of and experience with strain gauge technology to perfect this already promising design. Calculating the rather tricky geometries involved, we helped design a custom foil strain gauge.

The wireless torque sensing prototype we delivered optimized this demanding subassembly — and successfully finalized the design.
